Winemaker
Chuck Devlin
Winemaker Chuck Devlin’s experience runs deep. He began young, working the California harvest in college and continued with a degree in Fermentation Science from the University of California at Davis in 1975. He has worked as a winemaker ever since. As of the 2006 vintage he counts 34 harvests that he has worked.
Experience & Vision
Chuck brings an impressive level of experience and vision to the winemaking process. He founded his own winery in 1978 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. He also served for years as president of the Santa Cruz Mountain Winegrower’s Association. His wines won hundreds of awards and he has brought that winning tradition to Ste. Chapelle.
Since arriving for the 2000 vintage Ste. Chapelle wines have cleaned up on the judging circuit. They have won best of show for Ice Wine, best of class for Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Ice Wine and countless dozens of golds, silvers, and bronzes.
Putting the Snake River Valley AVA on the Map
Chuck joined Ste. Chapelle with the goal of putting the emerging Snake River Valley AVA on the wine world’s map. "I am not interested in making great Idaho wine or even great Northwest wine – I want Ste. Chapelle to be recognized for making great wines, period," he says. "My intention is to make better wines with each passing vintage." He believes that the sky is the limit for Ste. Chapelle.
